Saas is not making the situation any better - "CRM Magazine reports that adoption rates for this software remain stable and are quite high. On the low end of the spectrum, they average about 24%. But some businesses are reporting CRM adoption rates as a high as 90%. On average, the adoption rates are about 47%,"  .. its not great!

Fast internet is a must. 

Make sure you have every type of connector on hand eg hdmi, vga, usbc etc etc .. have been caught out a few times myself

Make sure you know your content and can demo without having to stare at the screen when running through the app

I guess similar to this is the trend where businesses give staff days off for a cause. Similar to Pledge 1% program .. staff and partners are encouraged to donate 1% of their labour to causes. (

I have been to Dreamforce a couple of times and I know what you mean. I think if your company had a booth in the hall you could do well but just working the crowd would be hard work. As you say it is a scramble between venues usually
